Surf and the City invites you all to attend our ‘Surf’s Up Gala’ fundraiser! With your help, we can raise enough money to help build our craft and send it off to Ottawa where we will compete in the most extraordinary flying competition RED BULL FLUGTAG!!

The funds we raise will also go towards our Charity to help underprivileged kids learn how to Surf in Tofino, BC.

We had our first grueling day in the workshop, wow this is a lot more work than we thought. So far we have accomplished nothing constructive, but we have managed to down several Cosmo’s and a bottle of tanning oil.

Your support have given us wings. Yes that’s right we got the official call from Red Bull today and SURF and the CITY has been cleared for takeoff! On Sunday, August 3, 2008, we will be part of the most extraordinary flying competition ever…Red Bull Flugtag Ottawa-Gatineau!

Here’s where the real work starts.

1. We actually have to build this thing
2. It has to fly!

Creative we are, but versed in aerodynamics…not so much. We are now calling all fans that have studied the motion of air, particularly when it interacts with a moving object, please speak up now we need YOU.

If aerodynamics isn’t your thing don’t fret it will take a multi faceted team of skilled volunteers to make a NYC taxi cab fly. So if you are not afraid to dream and just as crazy as us…we need YOU too!

The countdown is on 7 more weeks until we take the plunge into the Ottawa River!

RED BULL Flootig? Flotug? Floptot?

Close….It’s Red Bull Flugtag (pronounced Floog-Tag) A German word for Flying Day.

When the Canadian Roxy Marketing Team (Shawna, Kelly, Sarah and Jen) heard about this year’s Red Bull event held in Ottawa, Ontario, the brainstorming clouds rolled in and an idea was born… “SURF AND THE CITY”

The aircraft is inspired by the ROXY surf culture and the classic TV show and movie, Sex and the City. Of course the team has the original characters - Jen (Carrie), Shawna (Samantha), Kelly (Miranda) and Sarah (Charlotte) and their aircraft wouldn’t be complete without a New York City Yellow Taxi and roof rack with a ROXY surfboard strapped on top.
